Maine-native, Oakland-based Rachel Efron is delighted to celebrate the release of her latest and most ambitious album yet, Put Out The Stars. Named for its boldest track, it continues Efron's inquiry into the inner life -- replete with its beauty, danger, grief, joy, and surprise. What separates this album from her previous works -- Say Goodbye and 4am -- is its immediacy. It is as though the window to her mind and heart has been wiped clean; as though the audience has been invited to sit just a little bit closer.
Efron recorded Put Out The Stars at world-renowned Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, with the help of all-star producer Jeffrey Wood and top-notch performers such as Scott Amendola (Madeleine Peyroux), Dawn Richardson (Four Non-Blondes, Tracy Chapman), and Paul Olguin (Mazzy Star). Standout tracks include the dark and saucy Too Soon, the wistful waltz, Marigold, and of course the deeply-felt, no holds barred Put Out The Stars. The soundscape of the album includes drums, bass, strings, accordion, gypsy violin, and trumpet, but these instruments only hang on the centerpiece of Rachel's sound, which remains the simple intimacy of piano and voice.

Dakota Darkhorse is a poet, spoken word artist, and musician living in San Francisco, California, and originally from New Haven, Connecticut. The pseudonym is a play on words, because "Dakota" is Native American for "friend", and a "Darkhorse" is a term for someone who succeeds when predicted to fail, ergo, "Dakota Darkhorse" translates to "Your Friend, The Underdog". At only 25 years old, he already has 2 books of poetry published (by Wasteland Press), and 2 CDs of music / spoken word out as well (produced by Poet of Pain). His debut book, "A Scar is Born" came out in May 2007, his second book, "Another Day, Another Shade of Gray", came out in April 2008, and his debut CD, "Scars and Stripes" came out in January 2008, and his second CD, "The Saddest Shades of Gray", came out in April 2011. He has been featured on the Indiefeed performance poetry podcast twice and has the honor of being one of the youngest people ever to be featured on it. He has had readings and performances at many venues, concert halls, bookstores, coffee shops, and open mics across the country, and is always on tour around the US.

Eliza Rickman is a nationally touring artist whose unique and haunting sound combines the lilting sweetness of popular vocalists like Feist or Annie Clark with the gritty sensibilities of PJ Harvey and the playfulness of Kurt Weill.
Eliza recorded her first full-length effort last winter with Chicago-based engineer Mark Greenberg (Andrew Bird, Wilco, Mavis Staples). It was funded by a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign during her first nationwide tour, when over $12k were raised (out of a $6k goal). The album highlights Eliza's talent for writing string arrangements, and includes contributions from percussionist Kevin O'Donnell (Andrew Bird's 'Bowl of Fire') & bassist Tom V. Ray (Neko Case, Jakob Dylan).

Bio: "Rising from the ashes of the popular North Carolina band Baby Cowboy, Deep Chatham was formed by guitarist Julian Sikes and upright bassist Jeff Loops. Ferociously talented songwriters, the duo crafted a heavy handful of original songs characterized by driving rhythms, intricate harmonies, and haunting melodies.
They immediately took their act on the road and began a relentless schedule of playing... music festivals, clubs, barrooms, and street corners from the deep south to the edges of the pacific northwest. Arriving in the tiny town of Talkeetna, Alaska, their paths fortuitously crossed with the gifted fiddle and banjo player Matt Heckler. The power of this songwriting trio was immediately apparent and the duo set forth as a power trio.
Arriving home in North Carolina after a series of highly successful shows from San Francisco to Maine, Deep Chatham recorded their long anticipated 2011 album, "Words from the Well". Known for their dedication to their craft and willingness to play anytime, anywhere, the trio sets forth once again in 2012 to conquer fans with their high energy live performances and infectious songs. From the stages of music festivals to your local street corner, keep your eyes and ears open."

Lily Henley is a singer, songwriter and fiddler who is gaining recognition as one of the most unique and passionate voices on the acoustic music scene. Born in Boston and raised accross more than 20 locations, Lily brings a diversity of experience and depth to her music; synthesizing her many influences to breathe life into a style all her own.

Lily grew up in a musical household inspired by parents who were avid folk music enthusiasts. Before her 6th birthday she heard Irish fiddling for the first time, and at the age of 11, after requesting one for years, Lily received her first violin and immediately began teaching herself tunes by ear. Two years later she attended Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Camp, the first fiddle camp of many. It was at these camps that she was able to study with inspiring teachers including Natalie MacMaster, Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Alasdair Fraser, Liz Carroll, and many other renowned musicians, and was introduced to a multitude of fiddle styles and the world of acoustic string music.

In her teens Lily was a musical staple at concerts around the Chicago area, and before her 15th birthday had already performed at the Milwaukee Irish Festival, Chicago Celtic Festival, and the Chicago Highland Games. She traveled to Cape Breton Island to study at the Gaelic College in Baddeck, but as she neared the end of high school she chose to attend the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in order to branch out in other musical directions. While still in school, Lily joined Sanda Weigl's Gypsy Jazz ensemble on a tour of Romania, toured the US with Jordanian pianist Zade Dirani, and in 2008 was a featured vocalist alongside clarinet phenomenon David Krakauer at Carnegie Hall. After graduating, Lily moved to Tel Aviv, Israel where she collaborated with the Baroque Ensemble Barrocade, and toured extensively with Israeli band Ktiphah Schorah. She was also a member of Musica Nova, Israel's only experimental music ensemble, and was a featured new artist in major articles in Haaretz and Yediot Aharonot (national newspapers of Israel).
As a versatile singer and fiddle player, drawing on her roots in both Americana and Middle Eastern music traditions, Lily Henley has begun to forge a unique musical path for herself. Her repertoire crosses three languages and combines original material with ear-catching arrangements of traditional songs and melodies. Lily currently lives in New York City and is planning to release her first record in 2012.

Born and raised in New Hartford, New York, now residing in New York City and studying at Syracuse University, Stephen began playing guitar at the age of 14 after hearing John Mayer’s “Room For Squares”. Since then, he has continued to craft his skills as a singer and songwriter, recording and performing a catalog of original music.
Originally beginning his musical career playing drums, Stephen’s transition to a songwriter has weaved a percussive element into his guitar playing and singing. Either with meticulously finger picked grooves on songs such as Not Worried and Elizabeth, or dynamic rhythm pieces heard in “Fallin” and “Better in Time,” Stephen’s music has proved to satisfy every type of environment. Since beginning humbly as a solo act around Central New York, Stephen has since finely tuned the performance and arrangement of his songs to compliment a full band of Bass, Drums, and Saxophone. During a show, while giving his band mates a few minutes to rest, Stephen utilizes the middle of the set for solo acoustic performances and medleys. This gives the audience a chance to hear a variety of different original songs, covers, and interpolations that are different and unique to each show.

Band Bio: As a musician and songwriter, Brady (with his band Citizen Crain, or with his looping show the Electric Onlychild Experience) combines
encyclopedic musical influences (Cash, Beatles, Nelson, Taylor, Dylan, Charles, Johnson, Albeniz, and many more) to create upbeat original looped Rockabluey Skifflecana. What this means is that Brady writes catchy, hooky, insightfully melodic blues, folk, rock, bluegrass, country, countryblues, and rockabilly with skiffle, jazz, classical, and flamenco influences, and then uses several digital looping stations to create performance layers of percussion, bass, guitar, lead guitar, and three part harmonies during the performance of a given song (nothing is pre-recorded, the layering is part of the performance). This is truly a unique and amazing experience, not to be missed.

Even though I cancelled my regular shreddenalia, I still got to wield last night. Red, blue, and green lights were twinkling at floor level as a panoply of stompboxes were simultaneously deployed, and a monsoon of cascading sonic dementia ensued. "Chops" were on display, and on several occasions I stood poised, a hairs-breadth away from spontaneously combusting into a barrage of two-handed tapping. At one point I superimposed an excerpt of Mahler's 5th, albeit three semitones above the flatted sharp thirteenth of a sinuous, insistent 13/8 ska-thrash groove, which in layman's terms means that, essentially, Time was morphed so that parrallel planes became roughly perpindicular amid the inherently retrograde cacaphony. One experiences such things and one is compelled to pinch oneself insofar as to determine whether one is or is not in fact under the influence of the proverbial Sandman of yore--that is to say, dreaming. Feedback was swirling. I saw various shapes flitting to and fro, but only peripherally. One of them may have been some kind of djinn. I say this only because he or she (it?) appeared to be wearing a turban. Then I switched to mixolydian. -- "On Shredding," by Rob Voland

Band Bio:
Kevin Casey (b.1987) is a musician and songwriter. He has been playing music since he first starting teaching himself guitar when he was twelve, and he started singing to cassettes and cds a few years before that. When he was twelve, he dreamt one night of a voyage that he would embark on where he would travel the world playing songs that he loved. This project is the culmination of years of practice and creation where he feels he is up to the task of stepping out on this journey.
After a 3-week trip to California, Kevin realized that he could not go on with attempting a new life in a new place, settling down, and ideas like this until he fulfilled this dream. So he flew back home all the way across the country in search of the songs that he would come to create. His first EP "On Such A Night As This" is being released and has received great praise amongst friends, strangers, other musicians and venue bookers. After performing these songs in public for the first time, he knew that it was time to plan and create this journey - and so begins the preparation for USA Tour.
USA Tour is happening this summer (throughout the months of May until August) where Kevin Casey and Friends are going to be traveling cross-country and back in a most ambitious 10-week tour of this beautiful land. He has recruited some dear friends who will accompany him on parts of the trip: Dave Moson, a percussionist and guitar player from Massachusetts; as well as Austin Retzlaff, a percussionist and musician from New York - both of whom have similar dreams of traveling and performing. He is also seeking out other solo musicians and bands to share the stage and travel with on this great tour.
Kevin started writing music for this project January 1, 2012 when he resolved to shift his activities into the realization of this dream. He has played in many different styles of bands and solo projects of the years, but this project has become the closest to his heart. He writes about love, relationships, memories, travel experiences and is influenced by both his surroundings, dreams, his love of reverb, simplicity and both the realization of self and happiness.
Before the idea of USA Tour became clear to him, Kevin felt he had come to a crossroads in his life where every sign seemed to point in this direction for a course of action, it was the only thing that he felt he could devote a significant amount of energy to; a night of heavy brainstorming gave way to the clear path of USA Tour (and future subsequent tours on other continents that will follow).
Kevin is also going to be recording a new 8-song record in the coming weeks that will be ready for release before the beginning of USA Tour. At this point, this tour is DIY and he is setting it up with help from his friends. Fundraising is going to be a big part of maintaining morale and livelihood during this trip, and they are excited to meet people and make friends along the way, inspire, and grow.

Band Bio:
"Puerto Escondido is like a breath of fresh air on a cool morning. It's got a jangly feel reminiscent of Tom Petty coupled with an infectious groove and an honest voice...
Leave it to an Italian to do Americana so well!"
Jim Donovan – founding member of the multiplatinum award winner band Rusted Root
I was born in 1984, in one of the coldest winters of last decades. People said that in this 22nd of January birds weren't able to stand up because of ice. I don't know if it's true but it's fine to believe in it ...it seems one of those "it was a cold and stormy winter" stories.
A country Italian child with a little bit of latin blood. I grew up near Parma, between autumn fog and summer wet warm. I approached to music as a young boy with Bob Dylan, Nomadi, Queen, Jon Lennon, Paul Simon. "Music was my first love" sang John Miles. And music was my best love. Then came Neil Young, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Fabrizio de André, Cat Stevens, John Denver, Francesco de Gregori, Roberto Vecchioni, Francesco Guccini, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John. Started playng guitar at twelve and writing song a few years later. My first band was called "Voci Proibite". We played social involved song with an easy listening Italian music. These were the High School times, years of dreams and junkies.
Years which made me the man I am.
I started my solo career at the end of 2005, supported by Davide Buzzi, Gabriele Anversa and some other musicians.
And in 2006 I signed with the indie label "Green Production" from La Spezia. Three years of intensive work, three years of unfinished changing of music, lyrics and arrangements. Three years when I learned how to play guitar, how to write, how to sing. How to listen. I started a complete approach on American music. Mostly Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Calexico, R.E.M., Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash, Talking Heads.
Years which made me the musician I am.

Chimney Choir came together just over a year ago and in that short time has written, recorded, and released two EPs, filmed a live DVD, and performed across much of the US. The Denver trio skillfully interweaves genres resulting in a "folk meets world music sound, steeped in psychedelia" (Concerted Efforts). All multi-instrumentalists, writers and singers- Kevin Larkin, David Rynhart and Kris Drickey change instruments (sometimes within a song) and sing in three part harmony- all while balancing field recording and computer synths with traditional acoustic instrumentation. Now Chimney Choir is touring in support of their most ambitious project yet - (ladder) - a full length live album of new music, recorded in a pipe organ chapel in front of a small audience. Guest percussionist Carl Sorensen plays a junk yard kit comprised of glass bottles, a PBR can, a bike wheel, nails and a trash can lid. The recording captures the synergy of the band and the crowd on a studio quality recording.

The Burlington, VT area Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band create music that has something in common with their name. Size. Eight people deep, their sound is so big and emotionally charged that it floods the room and practically overflows out the venue doors, leaving in it’s wake an audience that’s bobbing and dancing to the groove. The I.S.B. began as a weekly Thursday night session at Burlington's coziest of haunts, Radio Bean. Dan Strauss has become a favorite NYC and Hudson Valley singer-songwriter with an intimate vocal style who writes openly and expressively about life, love and occasionally, his own musical instruments. Secret Heliotropes: Solid songcraft, top-shelf guitar playing, and the subtle but insistent rhythms of spoons, shakers and tamborines make Secret Heliotropes' acoustic music not quite what you'd expect from a trio of two acoustic guitars and percussion.

Band Bio:
Founded in 2008, Oobleck is six piece funk based instrumental horn band hailing from the Capital Region of New York. And when we say funk, we actually mean funked-out-afro-grunge-rock-dub-whatever. It's a melee of horns, super heavy drums and bass and your favorite type of chunky guitar riffing that leaves your ass shaking and your face grinning.
Balancing razor sharp horn lines with live group improvisation, Oobleck mesmerizes…delving fearlessly where the moment takes them. Pushing the bounds of sound, Oobleck's funk is an unbridled expression of the dark and light: a sextet's worth of energy and synergy, infusing you with the raw love of music that comes only from playing, dancing and breathing from a place deep down. In the end, it's funk to fuel your soul.
"A reincarnation of James Brown funk, mixed with jazz infusions of oolong-tea and crispy grilled cheese with jalapenos bringing the heat. A funky dance-a-thon. Hot horns, driving percussion, and a steady rhythm to welcome you in from the cold."

Bryson Barnes and the New Method bring the soul sound in a box of
shoeshine. Indie rock hip hop with a voicebox and the backbone. Pure
style. Nod your head and dig it out loud when the ground rains up to a
clear blue cloud. The breath and the rhythm and the deep blue sea. Now
wouldn’t that be a thing?
Alongside Bryson, the band features longtime friends and collaborators
Rob Morse on bass (Viperhouse, Vorcza, Anais Mitchell, Strength in
Numbers), Parker Shper on keyboard (Strength in Numbers, Groundfood),
Max Bronstein on guitar (Evan Crandell and the Too Hot to Handle,
Strength in Numbers), and Dan Ryan on drums (Craig Mitchell & Motor
City, Kat Wright & the Indomitable Soul Band, Strength in Numbers).

Dan Lavoie's unique guitar style began at the age of 12 in his hometown of Pawling, NY. His biggest influence at that point was his older brother Mikie. Dan would flip his brother's right handed guitar upside down like Jimmy Hendrix and play left handed. For several years Lavoie dove deep into the music of Jimmy Hendrix, Metallica, Phish, Chet Atkins, Jerry Garcia, Eddie Van Halen and many other... artists having a big impact on his soloing techniques. After performing in many bands ranging from rock, funk/jam and metal, Lavoie enrolled in the Music Performance Program at Dutchess Community College receiving his MPC with Honors studying with classical guitarist Jeff Armstrong and was accepted to Berklee College of Music. In 2001 Dan decided to go solo and began recording his first instrumental album Little Noodles. He continued writing solo pieces throughout the years but began crafting songs about his life experiences. He traveled with a former bandmate of Makeshift Mountains performing around Europe in 2007. Lavoie has made a name for himself performing at such places as the Towne Crier in Pawling NY, Last Chance Tavern, High Falls Cafe, Rosendale Cafe, Chill Wine Bar, The Colony Woodstock, Nectars VT, Cubbyhole, New York City's Rockwood Music Hall, Brick Cafe, Waltz Astoria, Villlage Lantern and Caffe Vivaldi, Hyde Park Brewing Company, Bank Street Tavern, Molten Java and several other venues! On November 4th he entered Woody's House Studio with well known producer/singer/songwriter Fred Gillen Jr. to record his debut album "To The Waters Edge, which he released on December 29th and has been promoting it heavily around thre entire Hudson Valley, New York City and Connecticut areas since its release! Lavoie has toured throughout the east coast and is looking to set out ona full blown 6 month US tour soon!

Herego is the old quilt on your mother’s couch in the house that you grew up in. Like an old familiar friend, it curls around you with an odor reminiscent of gingerbread and perfume. You know Herego; it has been a part of your life for as long as you can remember. Indeed, it has been a bud in the mind of this folk duo for as long as they’ve known what the calloused feel of guitar strings against the pads of their fingers is.
